who is Mamma Gertie?

Our next destination is the Smoky Mountains and the Biltmore in Ashville, NC. We have been doing a poor job of planning ahead and reserving campsites less than 24 hours ahead of arrival… Yes we really suck at planning! However we have been landing in some really, really nice places and today we hit the jackpot at Mamma Gerties Hideaway perched on the hills east of Ashville!

I did find there are several other campgrounds that are also making the most of helping travelers feel like they are on the top of the mountain, they all look fantastic and worth spending some time. We happened to get a site out on the highest site at the left end, perched at the top of the campground, the view was awesome!

I decided to drag out my “beginner’s drone” but it was no match for the wind coming up the mountainsides, I did have fun trying! I say beginner’s drone because it’s the cheapest I could find with a 720P camera and viewing from a cell phone. The still photos were the only salvageable shots, the video are worse than sickness you’d get on heavy seas. We definitely found a great place to stay as we explore Ashville and the Smoky Mountain Parkway.
