We’ve gone from camping in the back of a station wagon, a family size canvas tent and two popup tent trailers over the last 30 years. After getting an ATV we thought about a toy hauler, but knew we would want a full time style RV about the time we paid it off. We have plans to do a lot of sight seeing, so a 3/4 or one ton truck would not be our ideal transportation once we parked the RV at each new destination, so we ruled out another trailer. After looking at the pros/cons of various motor homes, we decided a Class A was the best fit for us.
After reading many articles and blogs, I learned that our first RV wouldn’t be the last no matter how good we plan. So I wanted to find the cheapest, yet nicest unit possible with the most features “we thought” we wanted or needed. We shopped two years for an affordable RV from dealers and private owners. I tried EBay and must have bid on 40-50 RV’s! I had bid and lost so many times, I had stopped telling Alice until after I was outbid. But then I was in Mexico on a business trip, and of all the worst times it could happen, I won an EBay auction despite a low ball bid while 1000 miles from home!
Well, our first adventure was catching a red-eye flight right after Thanksgiving in 2012, flying from Arizona to Sarasota Florida. We took delivery, sight unseen on a 1999 Fleetwood Bounder 32H from a dealer in Braydenton. The only RV gear we packed was a set of sheets and a fresh, clean new mattress would be our first stop. That first 2000 mile trip and every trip since, has been jammed full of mishaps, several awesome adventures and fantastic memories for us RV rookies! Amazingly this EBay fiasco turned out way better than I could have ever imagined and I can still say we got a great bargain…
I hope you enjoy our adventures, parodies on the misadventures, not to mention some wonderful scenery shared along the way. Cheers!
